Suggested alternative line for Chien. It would also to traverse across into Sundare with hands at the level of my feet....this photo was taken before the rock fall.

Thanks for that. Is the grade the same for your suggested line?

Surely you should just climb the new arete and the grade is just what that is now.

Wasn't a lot of great gear there previously. Is the arĂȘte any harder now?

The arĂȘte is still climbable I guess, but there is no pro until you get to the last couple of feet, the rock has fallen away along the line of the gear/finger crack. My suggested line is HVS 5a I reckon - I didn't check the direct/old line, but it is effectively solo. Incoming tide prevented anything other than escape.

Top-roped "suggested line" a few weeks ago, moving left with hands at left of feet in this photo. Tried leading 3 days ago - forgot to traverse at that level until too late to back off, so thought to move left with feet at that level - or above - came off! Last gear (BD stopper no 2) held, but fall became "interesting", ending up head first 1.5 metres above deck, and Grade 2 tear of left MCL. Shall try to remember to traverse earlier next time!
