The direct start and finish make it a much better route

I couldnt agree more and more consistent at the grade being a soft HVS 5a (accounting for a little run out but tricky section in the middle). The line shown on this looks like a needless pain.

I haven't done the direct, but I think the airy traverse - while easy climbing really adds to the adventure.
