In Europe alone over 7.5 million tons of textile waste is generated each year; whilst down and feathers are only a fraction of this total amount it still represents a large quantity of material sent to landfill. As part of our commitment to developing a more sustainable supply chain Mountain Equipment is introducing Down Cycle™. Starting with the Earthrise Jacket, filled with 100% recycled down and using 100% recycled outer and lining fabrics. Our ultimate aim is to develop a fully closed loop recycling system for down clothing and equipment and to eliminate the need for unwanted products, or those at the end of their useable life, being sent to landfill.

We have already begun this process, with successful trials completed here in the UK using recycled down from unrepairable warranty products and we will trial this in Germany on a commercial scale in 2019. This will involve collecting and processing many more unwanted items of outdoor clothing and equipment.

As great an idea as this is, I'm still using the lightline  jacket and snowline sleeping  bag I bought over twenty five years ago. I think my kids will inherit them!

'Elastane bound Mountain Hood' - Are you sure as it doesn't appear to have one. If Im correct do I get a free jacket for pointing out ME`s mistake ?

Hi guys,

Some of the information in the competition was incorrect - oops! We've corrected it now. Don't worry, there's still a lovely ME jacket to be won!

I know this is about ME kit but I think you can say this of most brands - "they dont make them like they used to". My kids will inherit my purple Rab Kinder smock from the mid-nineties but not any of my more modern Rab down kit. That is where recyclers will get their material from.

Yes, my blue Rab Extreme jacket is still going strong!
