ABK Climbing - The new kid on the "bloc" as far as climbing clothing. ABK started its life in a French bouldering wall in Grenoble. The owners made their own Logo Ts for their loyal and local climbers as you see at most walls now. This progressed to hooded tops, to vests, then more t shirts and pants. The clothing was doing so well that it was almost a full time job. Steph, Bullet, Hugo, Nicolas and François went with their instinct (which till now made them take exclusively bad decisions) and ABK was born! Now with a full range of stretch and organic products they hope that you, ABK customers, will finally think it was not a bad idea to follow their instincts.

ABK’s mission statement “The brand that does not make you stronger just more beautiful” is testament to their humour. This is also evident in some of their more amusing t shirt designs.

With so many climbing brands producing clothing. What is it that sets ABK apart from the rest? ABK Company have spent the last five years researching and comparing its competitors and seeing where the gaps are in the market. They decided that they needed to design comfortable, cool but functional and durable clothing for the climbing scene.

With a blend of organic cotton and Lycra, the core “Gravity” line of ABK clothing gives you beautifully soft and stretchy materials with a little euro-flair. Not quite as startlingly colourful as some brands but fresh and young enough to appeal to a wide range of tastes. If you’re a charcoal or black type of person there is still an offering and with ABK making good in roads in the UK we will no doubt see an increase in these safer or more conservative colours. The “Urban” range is more lifestyle than climbing but it does include the classic Yoda Jean. Lightweight, stretchy and well detailed.

Their Womens and Mens ranges carry enough detail and cross over with colours, that it is easy to pick out matching outfits. ABK have brought on board a specific female designer to create and collaborate to strengthen this effect. Backed by a small kids range, accessories like rope bags, chalk bags, belt kits and beanies it is well worth a venture.

ABK Company support various events and athletes in the Grenoble area from slack liners, base jumpers, long boarders and even DJs. If it looks like fun. ABK will be there!

And there's me thinking that rock climbing was all about climbing and not about looking good.

Well you need to wear something when you climb. And if they're making cotton lycra pants I imagine there'll be considerable interest since no other manufacturer seems interested in making clothing specifically for climbing in these days.
