WINNER: petegunn

The Arc’teryx Lakeland Revival is now in its third year. It originally began after speaking with local shop staff and hearing how a lot of the old classic routes and crags were becoming over grown and even lost. The focus the last two years have been on cleaning dirty route, this year the idea has developed to reviving Lakeland climbing as a whole; the climbing, history, people, stories and the myths and legends.

It is great for the FRCC to be involved with Arcteryx in the Lakeland Revival. It helps to highlight hidden classic and also especially, during the summertime, routes on the higher crags.

There are many great routes listed on Lakeland Revival Route Cards and it is well worth hunting these out - get away from the valley crags for the likes of Rough Magic on Gillercomb and City of Love and Ashes on Lining Crag and many more. Get out there and enjoy these routes.” - Ron Kenyon, FRCC

If you want to get involved check out the website www.arcteryxlakelandrevival.com and pick one of our recommended route cards up or submit your story.

For me, the full climbing experience involves a walk-in, several pitches of climbing near my limit (not that high these days!), repeat until tea-time/sunset/slightly after sunset and walk out. Ideally it also involves climbing on a high mountain crag or committing sea-cliff: roadside quarries and outcrops though they may have some brilliant routes, always seem to lack atmosphere. Routes on mountain crags such as Gimmer/Scafell/Gable/Pillar etc really are the best in the Lakes, whatever grade you are climbing at. Small amounts of moss and lichen are nothing if conditions are dry and climbing on this kind of rock just becomes another tool in the armoury of the experienced mountaineer.” - Stephen Reid, Needle Sports

Great video too, it's nice to see some decent footage of an E1 type climb. It makes me want to get out there!
