Best Climbing Experience
My best experience is watching the effect the mountains have on people. I love introducing new people to the outdoors and to climbing. I believe communicating concepts and ideas across to others is important in their progression and their understanding. It underlies their hopes, fears and limitations while identifying the dangers of the activity.
I am a qualified and registered social Worker and I draw on my experience as a social worker and child and family therapist to work in the mountains with people of all abilities in a safe, non-directive, non-competitive approach.

Interests Outside Climbing
I became originally involved in climbing and mountaineering in the 1990’s through my role in the armed forces. I spent several years as a Royal Marine Commando, specialising in Mountain and Arctic Warfare. With this role I spent a lot of time in Scotland and Norway ice climbing and ski mountaineering.
As well as my military experience of leadership I have extensive experience of leading groups and instructing in outdoor centres and children’s homes. I have worked as an outdoor activity instructor delivering climbing sessions on natural rock, climbing walls and climbing towers. I have also delivered abseiling, high ropes, kayaking, canoeing, raft building and mountain biking sessions on a daily basis at residential outdoor activity centres. I gained several relevant qualifications such as Single Pitch Award, MLA, MIAS Level 2 Mountain Bike Instructor Award, BOF orienteering coach, RYA powerboat level 2, National Vocational Beach Lifeguard Qualification (NVBLQ), BCU Level 2 Canoe coach
