Occasional passing visitor:
Having enjoyed bouldering here a few times I tried the routes this week. The design makes really good use of a small (ish) space with an excellent steep corner, vertical walls and slabs.
I thought the quality of route setting was first class. It's great to see quality slab routes at an indoor wall (as well as the step stuff). The circuit in the bouldering room also provides an excellent workout.
Friendly, sociable wall that I'd recommend to all.
WELL DONE DONNA!!!!
Young Entrepreneur Award sponsored by Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council: this award recognised young women who have shown initiative and desire to successfully set up their own business
Winner: Donna Carless, Dynamic Rock. Donna and her partner Adam decided to turn their passion of rock climbing into a business. During a 3 month career break Donna researched the idea of establishing an indoor rock climbing centre, which became Dynamic Rock Limited. Supported by a variety of financial backers they secured a building in Clydach, Swansea and spent 8 months completing extensive conversion works to realise their dream.
The business is now used by climbing enthusiasts throughout the UK following positive reports in dedicated climbing web-sites and magazines.
Donna completed a Coaching Course and this year Donna helped coach the Welsh youth Squad. The Centre has developed and gained a valuable Adventure Activities Licensing Authority (AALA) license, and diversified into providing outdoor course and instruction in abseiling, gorge walking and kayaking.
Donna feels that climbing is still a male dominated sport, however she feels she is at the forefront of a cultural change in the sport – and she is determined to compete more and at a higher level to support the cause of women climbers!
great venue for beginers and the more advanced great for top rope, lead and bouldering, lots of routes well worth the visit and you will go back again and again.
This place has now become my regular training venue. The bouldering is imaginative. The routes are good. Staff pleasant. Could do with a bit more space though and serious training does require you to repeat stuff. However, the record so far for changing routes is good - ie there is always something new to have a go at. I Would repeat previous poster's message - its well worth a visit if you are coming back/to pembroke/Gower in the rain.
Spend a few very enjoyable hours there on Tuesday.
The place is dead easy to get too, only 5 mins off the M4.
Its not massively huge, but there's more than enough there to keep you occupied
for a few hrs and to have you going back for more.
There seems to be huge potential for changing the routes on all the wall. The staff there are
excellent and very friendly.
The open plan cafe at the top is great, you can sit or stand around and look down into the main
wall area, then head down for some more climbs after a hot brew.
When word gets out this place is going to be heaving!!
PS Cracking pub across the road too.!!
