well run climbing wall. great cafe. loaaads of problems and routes to go at over varying angles. a training area also. it was however very very busy and parking was difficult. the price did seem a little steep but we weren't dissapointed with the climbing!

Visited January '08. A pleasant wall with a good number of routes, but was very busy during the evening we visited - had to queue to get onto the top-roped panels. The walls seem steeper than many of the other centres I've visited, with seemingly most being overhanging - probably a facet of the shape of the building - so being a bit stronger or having decent technique would help.

Good points: Very spacious and modern centre, packed with routes which change every 3 months. Lots of opportunities for young children to have a go; very experienced staff (Lynne and Neil, for example, have been there for years now) handle the kids really well and seem to actually enjoy it! Also, quite well-priced and the owners seem to be keen on keeping the place developing. New lead wall (2001) is excellent, very overhanging and interpreted very well by route-setters. Bad points: Bit of a muscle beach thing going on at the new lead wall sometimes - the famous faces that do frequent the centre are as guilty as the other punters (and certain staff). Mind you, I'd be swaggering about like them in a flash if I wasn't pale, flabby, and not very strong. Loose holds are a particular recurring problem at GCC (relative to Alien Rock) - blamed on frequency of route change. However, the imagination and inventiveness of the route-setters is, in my opinion, the best thing about the place. In addition, the number of kids from the community who get to come along and have a great time seems testament to the importance of GCC to Glasgow.

I am not a member yet, but i go regularly & get signed in as a guest. GCC has good facilities, snack cafe, (Summits), outdoor shop, changing rooms, lockers. It is good whether u are a beginner or experienced climber. Every week there are lessons & clubs on for kids & adults! GCC organise outdoor climbing events. I have been to a couple of other indoor climbing walls & they look like they would fail any inspection from H.M Inspectors, but GCC in my opinion is really good, & if u have an interest in climbng or want to try it, GCC is definitely worth paying a visit!!
