Overview

Courses, taster sessions, and Junior Rock club are run at the centre

Some facilities of the centre are available for use, including free parking, changing rooms with lockers (£1 coin needed) and showers, a crèche (at a cost, with prior booking), vending machines, and a café overlooking the climbing wall.

After entering the leisure centre by heading over the bridge (past the old outdoors concrete wall!) you'll be able to see the new indoor wall. Head past main reception and down the stairs - the climbing wall reception will be right in front of you.

Nice wall - staff friendly and helpful, relaxed atmosphere. My only suggestion is it could do with a drinking fountain!

As others here have stated the new wall is a gem, agree that the leading options don't cater for those climbing lower in the grades (they tend to start at 6a). Bouldering is great and 10-15 new routes are put up on a weekly basis. Staff are friendly and the wall is quiet compared to Craggy Island in Guildford for example, though it is steadily building a group of devotees!

The NEW climbing wall is Inside, the old one is outside. THe outside one was terrible, the inside one is a masterpiece :-)

Really enjoy climbing at this wall. It is great for taking people for the first time as it isn't too busy and there are plenty of easy routes for people to top rope. Staff are also very friendly and helpful. An imporvement would be to give us 'lightweights' some easier leading routes :-) Jon

The new facility indoors has taken over a snigle badminton court surrounded by viewing balconies on three sides. The new wall has auto belay, top led, and lead climber routes on one side of the court and a bouldering wall on the other side. The current hardest bouldering route is a V5/6. The venue is very self contained and feels intimate but not short of space. A big improvment from the outside wall.

Pretty grim. Outdoors, breeze blocks with some bolted-on holds and an arete feature - top-roping only. This is accessible only by booking onto a "course", or on the Alton Climbing Club evening (if that's still going). Indoors, a short traversing wall (bolt-on holds). Neither much changed in the 10-ish years since I first went there.
