I have added some photos from one of our visits, I hope you like the look of them :)

9/10 I am a 20 year old casual climber and I moved back to Warrington after a few years living in North Wales. I was craving some decent climbing to keep my mind and body active so I tried out North West Face a few times..it was good looking place but my wallet really didn't enjoy it much at £8 a pop and it was all too often crowded with groups of learners..I'm going to give "Real Rock" at Great Sankey Leisure Centre a little review as I have been going there for a few months now. Pros: -It is quiet and out of the way yet very accessible and ready to be used and at £3 for a session and 50p for a Sunday session it's pretty good value consdering the alternative. -The real rock makes such a difference to the plastic moulds I am used to being indoors, the rock has good friction and gives much more response than the slip-and-slide, manufactured holds of today. Au naturel :) -There is no need to worry about which equipment you need to take as you're just going for a boulder session. -The styles of the problems that have been set out for completion are very progression based, challenging and demanding. -The variety of routes there from these awkward, low down, technical moves to the reachy, troublesome, power moves all the way to 100% stamina testing traverses is brilliant for developing each aspect of climbing. One length of the corridor is 120ft and there's no reason to stop when you reach the end :) -The ceiling allows for simulating very steep to completely horizontal climbing and is also a good bit of fun to mess around on if you find yourself getting bored of the endless problems on the walls. I found combining wall and ceiling to go from one side to the other quite a fun one. Cons: -As it is just a corridor there are no high routes so no typical rope climbing there(ropes may be used to practice putting gear in while traversing) but you don't get the full experience of doing a vertical route. -Very rarely there children are upstairs to watch the trampoliners/footballers/badminton players on the courts below(remember this is a leisure centre) and they can get a bit loud at times but generally they are supervised so it's not TOO big a hassle. I think the number of positives far outweighs the number of negatives when it comes to this place which is why I have given it 9/10 above, as far as I can see(and my eyesight is pretty good) it is a very good place for climbers of all skill levels and backgrounds, if only for the rainy days or when the wind isn't doing you any favours. Thumbs up Frank Turner, brilliant idea and well executed.

Looking for some high quality training? Look no further - YOU HAVE FOUND IT! As you can't tell the quality of a book by its cover neither can you tell the quality of a Wall by a photo or brief description. The rather insignificant looking Great Sankey 'Real Rock' Wall probably offers the best training potential in the North West. If you want real stamina building then forget about repeating 20 to 50 feet of up, down and rest, up down and rest, think of 100 to 500 feet, even 1,000 to 5,000 if you are that good, for here you can climb continuously, non-stop, for as long as you are able to, on constantly variable and interchangeable routes, at any grade between diff. and extreme! Rained off, or too dark at Pex Hill? You can traverse here to your heart's content on routes just as challenging. Until the end of the year admission on Sundays is only 50p. With nothing to lose and plenty to gain come along and try it out.

Disappointing that not everyone could appreciate the wall’s potential as, obviously, Moiz, Phil and Bill could. Beginners are well catered for but the design also allows stamina building sessions for those SERIOUS about improving. Where else can you do 1,000 feet of continuous climbing, at your grade, every half hour? Then relax by solving some of the infinite number of bouldering problems, limited only by your own level of imagination. Not forgetting two 60 feet long Roof Route challenges, each has only been done once (5 free visits for success) and the 120 feet challenge which has never been done (15 free visits for success!). So, whether you are looking for a good introduction to climbing walls and climbing, or are serious about training, go with an open mind and imagination and you will not be disappointed.

Endorse everything moiz has said. Price is £2.50 for as long as you want-really good training. If you can't improve your grades after the 'circuits' here you'll never do it! Even has the possibility of learning how and where to place gear...Okay so it's on a traverse, but the principle's the same. Frank is available for tuition if you want. So far have only met genuine climbers-no lycra-clad posers here!

Price is now £2.40 (still cheap), you don't need to ring Frank for availability - just turn up and climb - it's open whenever the leisure centre is open. With an active imagination there is lots of potential. Conversion of one of the squash courts for lead walls/top ropes may well be in the pipeline.

i found this wall good for climbers of varying abilities from beginner to experienced. everytime ive been on this wall, ive been the only one there as the nearby north west face tends to be local climbers first choice. good overhang section, but it can offputting when someone walks past (admittedly not often) as the overhang is the ceiling of the corridor. the holds are all "real rock" and you can have a good training session. not bad if you just want to boulder and good value for money, especially if ladies aerobics is on in the sports hall! worth checking out if you fancy a bit of piece and quite.
