Overview

Facilities
The Lock Climbing Wall offers a range of climbing options, from beginners to aspirant athletes and everything in between. The centre has over 120 climbing routes available, up to 14 meters high and most lines can be “lead” or “top-roped”.

The centre has 2 dedicated bouldering areas with 30+ “problems” (ranging from VB - V5+), as well as a specific training area - including a campus board, 45 board, finger boards, gymnastic rings and free-weights.

Additionally, we have 3 auto belays available, an outside “featured” climbing tower for “top-roping” and an abseiling platform.

Café

There is a small café here at The Lock offering hot and cold drinks, a selection of snacks and a range of sandwiches and wraps. You are also welcome to bring your own food to consume on-site and we have some outside picnic benches available to use.

Shop

The Lock Climbing Wall has a small selection climbing consumables onsite, as well as holding a couple of our favourite harnesses and belay devices. So if you are looking for climbing basics or need a top up on your chalk we’ll be able to sort you out.

Parking
The centre offers limited parking, however there is a large free car park nearby at The Moorhen Pub. Please be considerate to our neighbours and do not park in residential bays or on the road outside the centre (Most of the roads have double yellow lines or are clearways, which could result in a parking ticket)

Having now returned several times I expected some new routes, but these are yet to materialise. Perhaps it'll happen over the Winter when folks concentrate more on indoor climbing. My earlier comments about the route grades seem to have been ignored.

I left them some comments in the suggestions book: a bouldering area would be great, plus the harder routes seemed a bit over-graded to me.

Routes still settling down, with quite a few spinners, and rather reachy starts. Obviously set by someone more than 5ft 4in tall! Good choice of routes, but no real bouldering. Cafe is fab, and the staff are very friendly.

Run with real enthusiasm, a good range of routes, and a great cafe. Very good indeed.
