Overview

UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT:

A warm welcome to Blackpool Sports Centre Bouldering & Climbing walls.  We have a great little venue for a climb or boulder.

We use Griptonite so log your climbs or blocs and check out the leader board.

Climbing:

60 Routes. Main wall includes overhangs and leading.

Most of the routes are set by Ian Vickers of OnyxClimbing and so are of a very high standard.

Grades from 3 to 7b+ and some features only routes that are harder still!

  • Main Roped Climbing Wall Use
  • Inducted Adults 18yrs +
  • Juniors 5yrs +  accompanied by a competent inducted adult 18yrs +

Bouldering:

72 Routes. The bouldering gym has featured walls and plywood walls, at varying angles; some hard!

Again 90% of all boulder/blocs/problems are set by Ian Vickers of OnyxClimbing and so are of a very high standard.

Grades from V0 to V8+

Lattice Triple Rung for a warm up!

  • Bouldering Use
  • Inducted Adults 18yrs +
  • Inducted Juniors Unsupervised 14yrs - 17yrs  (accompanied by Parent  or Guardian at Induction stage)
  • Juniors 5yrs +  accompanied by a competent inducted adult 18yrs + ONLY

Inductions

If you are an experienced climber and want an induction to climb, then the best days are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday - during the day - or if there's a few of you coming down, let me know and I'll come in the evening, especially for you. I am often at the wall on a Tuesday evening.

Inductions for Bouldering can be done any time by the sports centre staff.

We hope you enjoy your Bouldering and Climbing experience with us.

Many courses available too + Sports centre facilities.

We also have more structured courses available for juniors from 7 to 17 years old, such as NICAS, Learn to Lead courses and more, which you can find out more about, on our website: Climbing And Bouldering | Active Blackpool

We can also offer 1:1 tuition and instruction. If you would like to enquire about this or want more information about any of our other climbing classes and courses, please get in touch.

Awful. They don't answer the phone or return voicemails, they don't respond to messages sent via the website contact form. For bouldering, they insist you do an induction, involving someone demonstrating and showing you everything, regardless of your experience level. For roped climbing, they advertise on their website that you can only do a competency test at 8 pm on Wednesday or Friday evenings, which you have to book (good luck getting through to them to do that), but it's not just a test, they make you do a 1-hour instructor-led induction and training session. No shoe or harness hire either. The bouldering room is small but has some decent routes, some on feature walls. The climbing wall has around 16 lines, including 2 auto-belays, with a mix of feature walls and plain walls.

The boulder room has been redone (in the past 3 years) and its now a really nice place to train. One really steep wall (around 50 degrees) and the rest are straight vert requiring good technique. Times located on here http://www.sportblackpool.co.uk/page.aspx?id=126
