Toooooooooo many stupid courses, too may rules, annoying staff and so little good climbing.
But an exxcellent comunity of great climbers!!
One major moan is the amount of courses in the week, the limit on number of climbers and the 1.5 hr limit at busy times. The staff hadn't inform me of the time restriction and after 1.5hrs I was asked to stop. After some quizzing I was told that there was a waiting list and I would be called when I was allowed back on. After a welcome brew and breather I was told I could go back in but would have to pay again. I wasn't very polite! The ensuing argument at reception was that users of other sport facilities such as squash, swimming etc have to pay twice to go back in. There were several other resigned climbers also very annoyed at the situation which appears to happen on a regular basis.
1.5 hours is not enough time for a successful session of bouldering or climbing particularly if you have to queue for routes. Most walls have cafe's and breaks are encouraged. I can understand the restriction on numbers (insurance I guess) but having to pay twice smarts a bit. Perhaps groups could climb on the quieter evenings or times. If 1.5 hour time restriction is enforced then enforced breaks are ok but re-entry fees should not be charged.
Any, enough moaning, I'm off to the The Cragg in Stowmarket for a boulder, and I encourage you to do the same unless UEA get their act together

Registration is a bit of a bind but if you phone up they are helpful - you can download and fax through registration details from their website (linked above) with your card details, or if you phone first and visit in th day when it's quieter they can register you there. Otherwise registration does take 24 hours so plan, phone or fax ahead!
Tried to go there and was told I needed to register. No problem except my registration needed to be on the computer for two days before I'd be allowed to climb. Might be worth phoning them up first before you go! Might have just been a rouge employee.
Wall looks Ok mind.
With a bit of imagination the bouldering is excellent. Heavily featured and potential for eliminates as hard as you like on overhangs, slabs and vertical areas. There are new display folders on the wall which have problems of up to B8 marked.
On the downside -
The routes are unfortunately not set that regularly and are not very hard. If you are climbing in the 6's there are a few good routes, but if you are climbing at F7a or above it is a bit lacking - though features only on the big overhang is worth at least F7a and features only up the left of the overhang must be F7b or harder (I haven't managed it yet anyway!).
also the close proximity to the cafe is a bit annoying.
still, I like this wall, as I boulder a lot. I'd be happy to show anyone some of the problems me and my friends have worked on. Up to about V7 I reckon.

Just like to say that i use this wall very regularly and its really great. iEveryone's really friendly and there are some ropes available for anyone to use (no leading on these, though). Id advise anyone whose coming to Norwich to check it out, its a really nice wall and plenty of climbs; you wont get bored. Overhangs, bouldering, chimney allsorts!
