Opened in December 2024, Boulder Exe is Exeter's newest climbing gym and the sister centre to Quay Climbing - which introduced roped climbing to the city in 2011.
Boulder Exe features two floors of climbing on walls designed by EP UK. The centre features The Titan Competition Wall (IFSC accredited) and three digital training boards: the classic Moonboard with 2024 hold sets and a full articulating Kilter Board and Tension Board 2. Cutting edge wall design is complemented by state-of-the-art modern holds and routes that focuses on technique development at all grades - promising a mental and physical challenge and the opportunity for climbers of all levels to progress and develop their love for the sport. We use the V grade system for all our sets. The competition wall and downstairs climbing space feature World Cup style boulder problems with more conventional routes on The Mezz, where there is also a dedicated beginners area.
Alongside the climbing, there's a fully equipped strength and conditioning gym, a yoga studio and treatment room alongside a stylish café and a retail outlet operated by our partners, Taunton Leisure. A bar and workspace will be opening in Spring 2024.
Our mission is simple: to create a space where climbers of all levels can test their limits, connect with others, and thrive. Our Route Setters are dedicated to crafting problems that offer every climber the same exciting and rewarding experience. Focused on designing movement patterns that look beyond the purely physical effort to the mental challenge of exploring different holds, angles and styles, they aim to inspire progression and growth for everyone who steps onto our walls. When we opened the Quay, the sign above the door said, Climbing for Everyone. That same mission drives us at Boulder Exe: to build spaces where climbers of all levels feel welcomed and supported to push their boundaries.
