Overview

If you are interested in getting involved in rock climbing, bouldering, hill walking, winter walking, scrambling, mountaineering or just getting outdoors in general then this is the club for you. We run regular day trips, weekends away, socials, indoor training sessions and competitions. Anyone is welcome to join, whether you are a complete beginner or an expert. Membership is open to both students and non-students alike as long as you are over 18.

Club trips

Every 1-2 weeks, we run trips to North Wales, the Lake District and the Peak District. We will also be running a week long winter walking trip to Glen Coe in Scotland over the New Year’s and are planning a trip to the world’s best bouldering destination, the Fontainebleau in France, over the Easter break.

Indoor training and teaching

Climbing: Liverpool has several excellent indoor climbing facilities. On Monday evenings we go to the Climbing Hangar for bouldering, on Wednesday afternoons we teach roped climbing at Awesome Walls and on Thursday evenings we practice at the University Bouldering Wall in the Sports & Fitness Centre. If you are interested in representing the University in regional and national competitions then we encourage you to join the squad, but if competitions are not for you then that is fine as well!

Walking: We run skills sessions throughout the year on topics such as navigation. This year we will also be hosting the BMC for one of their excellent Winter Skills lectures.

Socials

You won’t always find us in the mountains - we have a buzzing and extremely friendly social life. Our regular socials include Athletic Union nights, pub crawls, house parties, dinner parties and more!

Why join?

Membership is excellent value for money. As well AU membership our joining fee includes British Mountaineering Council (BMC) membership (benefits include civil liability insurance cover and discounts at over 800 outdoor retailers). Members are entitled to use our extensive range of club equipment, including harnesses, helmets, ropes, trad gear, bouldering mats, crampons, ice axes, guide books and maps. You will learn new skills, go to new places, meet new people, explore new opportunities and you might just possibly have the best time of your life!
