250m.
Difficult mixed climbing which is essentially a direct
start to Ypres and which then finds an independent finish to the
right. First climbed in very lean conditions (frozen turf ), it may
improve under substantial hard snow. Start approx 30m right
of Western Gully on a broad sloping terrace above the initial icefalls.
A rightward-slanting groove leads to a chimney blocked by
a chock-stone. Arctic Fox starts 30m right of Western Gully not
150m as mentioned in the old guidebook!
1 40m (5) Climb the groove and chimney turning the
chockstone on the right to a small bay (peg). Move up and right
into the next groove and climb this to a belay.
2 45m (4) A short corner leads to a terrace. Cross diagonally
right up a shallow gully turning a chock-stone on the left to
belay at a large spike.
3 20m (3) Climb into the base of the upper couloir and belay
on the left.
4 45m (5) Climb up the right-hand side of the couloir past a
jammed block.
5 100m (2) Easier ground to finish.
