Rockfax Description
The soaring groove is the main feature of this side of The Church. Bridge up it, passing the bulge on the left, to reach ledges complete with belay/abseil pegs. © Rockfax

i thought it tough for the grade, awkward to start and to move through the overhung niche, other than that 4c. Good gear all the way. Abbed without using any tat, the ropes pull fine.

Felt harder than last time, I'm sure that before I used a now-pruned branch on the tree at the bottom as a foothold! Still brilliant though. Ab tat needs replacing (forgot to take ours), though the rope apparently pulls OK if you just use the rock.

Felt this doesn't deserve a top 50, very grotty last third. Ab was Ok (pinnacle with 3 pieces of tat + wire with tat). Found Anaconda better

Nice adventure, with a ford and everything. Probably not worth Top 50 though, 2* I'd say; a strangely Gritstone-esque climb.(did some gardening as well, climb is currently very clean!)

Not really a 'soaring grove'more a grotty corner. Impossible to bridge before half way, mostly damp and mostly vegetated. Stung by bastard nettles on the ab down. As a result most definitely NOT top 50 for me. Still a fun expedition into the dark heart of the dale and certainly memorable.

Hoyes 18/Aug/12 Lead O/S

Somewhat vegetated, would benefit from more traffic.

Carmen led, then I led on her gear (supplemented with some extra placements as I wasn't feeling as bold as she was!). A brilliant, varied route, reminiscent of Bramble Crack at Baildon. The start is hard for the short. No 5a moves but lots of 4c!

Good route, take a machete or get stung by nettles on the approach. Church is awesome, I'll be back.

Excellent climb, bold for a VS though well-protected, and a very adventurous approach! (Hint - take some flip-flops and prepare to get wet).
