Please refrain from climbing outside

Due to the ongoing spread of Covid-19, please abstain from climbing outside.

At UKC we are all climbers and we understand the strong urge to be outdoors as the weather is finally improving, but we feel this is no longer socially acceptable. You can read our statement here.

We have suspended the UKC Logbooks Top Ascents and Conditions pages and we will no longer accept ascents dated from 23rd March onwards. You can still upload your historic ascents.

pipmccarthy 10 Mar, 2019 Lead conditions started deteriorating as we descended Recovery Gully. Lull as started to climb. Three fun chimneys with just enough build up and good gear. Made the mistake of stopping to belay just before final forth chimney, as 60m ropes would have easily done one pitch. Wind and snow then began to hurtle up whilst climbing the final steep crux corner and got a bit stuck facing wrong way at the top. Ace route. Topped out into full on blizzard. Decided to descend down into Strath Nethy. Made half attempt to go back up northern flank further downstream but the dark came and the storm hadn't abated so. ended up stumbling 4km down the Nethy to the footbridge then a further 10km back to the car. 3am.

AndyP 11 Feb, 2018 Lead Great route, short for a route but long for a pitch. This route packs a lot of variety: ice, snow, bare rock and frozen turf. The cornice was a lump of sugar and for this reason turned out to be the crux. Took 75 mins to walk in slowly and 45 mins out, very civilised - winter climbing for elderly gentlemen. This was my first winter route for nine years. Memories of Will drifted across me as I sat belaying in the spindrift. I never really consciously decided to stop climbing in winter, but the loss of Will was painful for a long time. Then Big Joe sent me a text...

Sutty22 22 Feb, 2013 AltLd O/S The buttresses were all stripped and looked better for rock climbing but the gully still held some snow and provided some good fun. I led P1, Dave did P2, turf was well frozen, blue sky, good climbing, good company, top day out really.
