MariaT 7 Jul, 2018 Solo The two halves of the route were a bit too far apart for our liking. Felt very disjointed. Esk Gorge was a much more enjoyable scramble.

Tom.Priestley 24 Mar, 2018 Solo O/S I think we got a bit lost on Thor's Buttress then took a good line up Pen.

Tom McCabe 12 Jul, 2017 Solo Missed out Thor's buttress and did something easier to the right of the cave. Then (over?)compensated with a good but scary direct line up Pen. Nice way up the Pike from Eskdale.

Fenda 11 Apr, 2017 Solo Walked in from Langdale then down into the Great Moss. Continued up on to Scafell Pike before heading back to the car. 8 hours round-trip at a good pace. The scrambling is fairly straight-forward and is broken up by several grassy terraces.

stratandrew 30 Oct, 2016 Solo Thors buttress only. On the margin of what was comfortable without a rope or company!

crossdressingrodney 16 Nov, 2014 Solo Struggled to find the start of the route from the description in Easy Climbs and Scrambles. Ended up arriving in the bay just to the left of the cave. Went too far up the gully and after scouting around a bit, abseiled off (hooray for the South African chair). Found a way between a couple of large flakes to traverse leftwards and found myself back on route. Rest of the route was much more fun and not too difficult after the big pull onto the block. Scrambled up the top of Pen and then continued on to the summit - didn't fancy a committing scramble on Ill Crags after that! Descended the next ridge west of Pen and slipped and fell, smashing my knee on a rock. Was just bruised fortunately, so could carry on down to valley floor.

Gerry_Doncaster 11 Sep, 2014 Solo The quality of the scrambling is rather mediocre but the positions, exposure and route finding challenges make this worthy of the three star rating. Well worth the three and a half hour walk in from Seathwaite too.
