Rockfax Description
II, 100m, 1 hour. Although commonly used as a descent route, the East Face is still a worthwhile route in ascent, with minimal technical difficulty and a glaciated approach making it an ideal first alpine route. From the snow bay on the left of the face, climb blocky ground to reach a natural diagonal ledge which traverses all the way to meet the Northeast Ridge. Climb this to the summit via some satisfying easy scrambling over blocks. © Rockfax

UKC Logbook Description
It is usually best when leaving from the Trient Hut to walk towards the Col du Tour and then skirt round below the frontier ridge to the base of the peak (1hr). Halfway up NE ridge, between the deep gap seperating the 2 summits and the S top, is a shoulder. Climb the face directly to this and follow the crest to the top. 2hr from the Trient hut, 3.5hr from the Albert Premier.

bobstones 3 Sep Lead O/S We climbed this from La Tour in a 12.5hr 22km 2100m+. It’s a bloody long day for what is only about an hours worth of climbing. We carried heavy packs full of shit and barely used any of it. You need crevasse kit, rope, boots, crampons, ice axe etc but that’s it. It’s not a climb it’s a scramble on very easy ground. Amazing location and you can’t have a bad day in the mountains in perfect weather but the route isn’t the best. The toughest parts were the Col du Tour and just after crossing the bergshrund as they’re both just piles of choss the latter is choss covered ice.

Incredible bivvy, 5am start and back to the hut before midday. We actually walked up from the valley the previous evening as we missed the last lift but was satisfying to do this way, even if the 1200 uphill slog with heavy overnight packs was a bit of a pain!

Realistically we were passing the bergschrund too late in the day and it was probably unstable, a better plan would be to stay at or bivi close to the Albert 1'er or better still an excellent bivi site would be the Col sup du Tour (bring plenty of water as non available after Albert 1'er and the snow is very dirty in summer) and then its only 400m and around 2 hours up in the morning, you don't even need to get up early! And you can comfortably make the valley on descent by early afternoon.
