Rockfax Description
The intimidating sheer wall below The Table provides an atmospheric climb that is a brilliant way to access the start of Cyfrwy Arete itself. From Llyn y Gadair, go up scree to a fin of rock below the wall. Scramble up the gully on the right-hand side of the fin to a belay and gearing-up ledge just right of a rock pinnacle that leans against the face.
1) 9m. Climb up just right of the pinnacle and then move right to a belay.
2) 16m. Climb up left of a grassy corner and then head leftwards to belay at the base of a long corner.
3) 14m. Climb the blocky corner to a good ledge and belay.
4) 10m. From the right end of the ledge climb up and then left to a belay. From here an easy scramble leads down to the start of Cyfrwy Arete. © Rockfax

jimshrimp 23 May, 2015 Lead O/S As suggested in the Guide- strong on atmosphere. Lots of dubious/loose rock as expected on a Mid-Wales north facing route. Worth doing once but probably wouldn't rush back. Table and Gap technicalities added some spice to proceedings, and longer sections great for practising moving together and short-roping.

Soaking wet rock at the start, not quite as damp for middle part and then the clouds came in and the rain started on the last couple of pitches. Soloed the top scramble in the pitch black (Alex roped up with another pair climbing with us). Not the quickest ascent by any means but good practice still... Horizontal rain on the summit, strong winds and a brief bit of difficulty finding the pony path but got down in the end. Absolute madness but great fun :P

doughobbs 6 May, 2013 Lead O/S WOW!! what a classic and brilliant route! The start was fun as if you approach the crag via the scree slope instead of coming up from the lake you can read the route start into any number of places on the crag, we were eventually guided to the foot of the route and the true start by a couple of other guys who were doing routes close by. Whilst looking and waiting for the start 2 girls beat us to the crag foot and started off up the wrong route thinking the same as us... they were heading off up an E2! Around midway up P2 we heard a very interesting bird making a single screech/ping sound similar to that of a smoke alarm with a flat battery.. no idea what it was but it was loud! There was also a cuckoo in the valley below that was singing all day long! Once at/on the table rigging a belay was interesting as there seems little to rig from/off, from here we went off up the Cyfrwy Arete (other writeup). A very good route and my first multi-pitch lead and first multi-pitch with Toni! :-)

GardnerWoods 13 Sep, 2009 Lead O/S Superb day out. Approach from car park opposite telephone box at 698153, up Pony path, branch left at cross paths near wall at 696142, to traversing path which brings you up under the north side of east ridge above Llyn y Gadair (go round the boulder fields, it's much easier). 3 long pitches to the table, 1 above the table then a scramble, walk to the summit, back down the main ridge to the Pony Track. Took minimal rack of wires and hex's.There's a bit of ab tat on a spike at the start of the pitch above the table, this takes you down to a horrendous looking screen.
Superb day out.

AdrianP 27 Dec, 2008 Solo Inspired by Yosemite speed ascents, we had to carry out our own for a laugh. Jogged up to the route past Lake Gwernan Hotel, summitted and down the Pony track. Car to car in just under 2h.
