580m. Good scramble with plenty to keep you entertained on the approach rib if you so wish.

Good honest grade 3 fun. Clean, warm, dry. Will's first time on a rope.

Had some trouble getting onto the access land below the scramble as the occupier of the house has put up private signs on the gate, and then came out of her house to tell me off for 'tresspasing' on her land!

RPT. Lugged rope and small rack all the way up in case of ice; it never left the bag. Wintery, but still in Grade 2 scrambling condition - just. Beautiful day in the hills.

Loved the exposed traverse left, requires faith at grade 2, but the holds come and it's a real highlight.

Very arduous approach over steep grassy ground - not really that pleasant. On the Buttress it was very wet, with sideways drizzle, occasionally roped up for slippery sections. Skipped the harder grade 3 section, which Shaun attempted but backed off because it was too slippery. Remembered that we'd done a slightly different version before. Not that great a scramble to be honest.

Hard to tell if I followed the route directly, avoided one hard section with a rightward leaning groove. Fun scrambling anyway and interesting top out to the tourist train!

Rib to the right deteriorates somewhat near the top so I moved over to this just after the buttress becomes more prominent.

Took a while to realise that Ashton's 'fine rock platform' required no noticeable 'escape rightwards over blocks'. Few 'pinnacles' seen but followed left a series of runnels eventually leading to a 'capped chimney' so think I stayed on route! The only solid grade 3 appeared to be the '5m crack in the slab' variant, launching off a pinnacle over a drop.
