Steve led P1 and P2 (which was deceptively sustained and much longer than it looked). I led toward the base of the pillar, then discovered poor, dinner-plating ice which rained down on the parties below. At that point I decided to follow the Italian party who were retreating, having concluded that they would kill everyone below if they started trying to climb the chandeliered ice of the pillar. The name of this climb translates to "Two men and a foetus". Apparently the third member of the first ascent team was so tired by the end that all he could do was curl up in a foetal position.

If you climb this to its logical finish, it's SIX full length 55-60m pitches. Poor choice for a rest day... Nice climbing though. Led 1, 3, 5, 6.

Direct variation. If it was back home, the route would get three stars, but the standards in Rjukan are high...

Stew lead the first pitch (steep start). I did the second pitch, very long and sustained. A big chunk of ice hit Stew's hand so we called short just by the cave.

Arrived to "top" trees after pitch 6 and there was still some ice little further back. Two abselis from trees on the left side and rest from abalakovs.

First ice multipitch. Great day out. Absailed down the left side of the route on ready made abalakovs.

Excellent route, quite sustained throughout. Snow tends to collect on the last pitch above the crux so was heavy going.

Took a fall on the direct variation third pitch when an axe ripped resulting in a dislocated foot. My hats off to the two guys I was with for getting us all out safely!
