Ticklists: Cairngorm Winter Climbs.

LJC 22/Feb/17 AltLd O/S

P1,5. Ripped an axe and fell off the start of p5. Cruxy, balancy, and lacking in good hooks, not really my cup of tea. Crux traverse is probably as serious to second as to lead.

Climbed the second pitch direct without the aid of the crack on the right, pretty sketchy but an awesome route. Robbie's first ever winter route!

Good route, veered off in error after the chockstone and went direct on the headwall (Jail House Break) at the right hand end of the top ledge, pumpy but well protected. Would be a good direct finish to Smokestack.

Excellent route with a big feel. Traverse was a very awkward and a bit sketchy. Done in 3 pitches. Led guidebook 1, 2, 4 and 5.

done an alternative 2nd pitch up the off width right of the flake. awesome climbing. lots of rime so took a while to clear. Bailed off at the halfway ledge due to a late start.

The year I have put is wrong. The biggest feeling route I have done in the northern corries. The rampy thing moving up and right above the terrace is thin. I fell off seconding the top pitch carelessly.

Apart from the breather at the mid way ledge pretty sustained. great fun with varied and intresting moves. An instant thaw hit as I left the last belay.

Sustained quality with a lot of variety. 1st winter route since accident. Must be mended. Cheers Adam.

Was a bit confused after the chock stone, make sure you move left and up, not right... First pitch was really good value. Glad i didn't lead the poo your pants traverse!

Traversed off at ledge as we started too late. Have to go back soon and finish it.

Very windy, cold, snow, spindrift, cold hands. Ice choked and therefore sparse protection. I sipped a couple of times moving up from the delicate traverse at the start of pitch 3, trying to move back up too soon I think. Challenging conditions!

Good route under tricky conditions. Jim lead most of the hard stuff, which was a bloody good effort for his first grade VI!

Climbing all seamed reasonable, being cruxy instead of sustained. Had a wee slip on the easy start of the first pitch fro some reason, also dropped my axe on the third pitch after completing the traverse, it very luckily landed on the midway ledge and was dewly recovered.

A nice climb, good conditions with plenty of rime and some powder. Original line could be improved by taking the second pitch direct.

akhughes 15/Jan/08 AltLd O/S

Route under powder and very bold in places due to ice filled cracks so felt more like VII,7. Finish up top pit jail house rock.
