Refuge Albert 1er on a fall evening © lesoy

Crag features

One recorded climb on the 120m long Cascade du Picheu, which is equipped for absails but suffers from avalanches. Despite being over 100m high, due to the low angled nature of the ice it can often become burried under snow and remain hidden for much of the season, so many people are unnaware of its potential as a climb! The route is long and continuous but never steep, so is a good outing for begginers when avalanch conditions are stable. Ice also forms readily on the main outflow of the hydro scheeme further along the cliff band. the status of this is unkown.

Approach notes

Park at ski area and walk/skin diagonally across the demaine de la Vormaine begginer pistes towards the direction of the Albert 1ier mountain hut. head directly to the base of the crag by the line of least resistance.
