One of the best and most extensive areas in Northern Germany. There are many sport and trad routes on pocketed rock with everything from slabs, walls, overhangs and roofs. Many of the bolts are well-spaced so a few wires might come in handy.
Approaching from Elze, follow the B3 then the B240 south towards Eschershausen. Ith (Ith-Holzen on some maps) is at a sharp right bend in the road after Capellenhagen. On the left you'll see Ith Hotel and then a streetside cafe-grill called Imbiss Grill. Take the turning on the right immediately after this. This road leads to the German Alpine Club (DAV - Deutsche Alpenverein) campsite, where you can park. Cross to the left of the campsite and a path into the wood will lead to the crags.
Closed climbs
See https://ig-klettern-niedersachsen.de/sperrungen > Sperrungen for the latest information on access issues. A few crags are permanently closed (3 from 27), some crags/routes have temporary restrictions due to birds or bats.
This crag should be seen as a mixed trad/sport crag. Top anchors are installed nearly everywhere, but bolts are only there when no own protection can be placed. JR_NL - 14/Aug/17 |

Nearly all routes are bolted, but quite badly in the lower grades. You will need some wires. The grades used in Germany are UIAA. Here's a link to the conversion table http://www.ukclimbing.com/databases/crags/comptable.html madmats - 14/Jan/12 |

Hi, can you explain what these grades refer to? (are they equivalent in some way to French grades?)
Are the climbs around Ith all fully bolted sport route? PhilCartwright - 11/Jan/12 |
