Crag features

There are three quarries here, but only one of which is any good, and it is best entered with respect. Rough Knarr has fallen off most climbers' radars. Used as a stone and wood store by a local builder, its ambience leaves a lot to be desired. The only worthwhile climbing is located in the Third Quarry.

Approach notes

The best access is from the centre of Delph up Stoneswood Road. After a while, this becomes Thurston Clough Road. Park on a bend near a metal gate and hop over. Follow the quarry track northeast to the quarries.

Surprisingly un-chossy. Well worth an evening visit. Descent routes being a bit tricky is the only negative.

Rough Knarr {or Knarr Quarry) has never been in Lancashire and never will be. I was born in Scouthead so I know what I'm talking about.:-)

Ok for an evening if local, the 1st quarry has been partially filled by the owner (bouldering possibilities as routes are now shorter) Best routes are in the 3rd quarry. Was fenced off about 7 years ago, I have not had a problem with access but have never met the owner.
