Crag features
Dunlichity Crag (NH 6577 3329) ALT 250M SOUTH-EAST FACINGThe crags lay above Dunlichity on the side of Creag a’ Chlachain. It is easily seen when approaching Dunlichity from the east or south. The rock is gneiss and the routes are fairly spread out with some vegetated areas between. The biggest feature of the crag is an impressive steep prow of rock which provides some sport climbs in the 7b to 7c range, see Scottish Sport Climbs (www.smc.org.uk/publications/climbing/scottish-sport-climbs).
Recent development of the boulders below the crag and in the woods has been done.
Must do lines: The Grave of the Fifty 5+, Are you Dun 6C, Are you Dunlickingme f7A+ and Tyler Dürfen/The Narrator f7C/+
Approach: Park at a large layby on bunachton road with a footpath entrance to woods. Cross the road and go over the fence. Follow the power line down until a traversing line can be made off to the right to the foot of the crag, 8-10 mins.
Approach notes
Directions: From the A9 south of Inverness, turn off just south of Daviot onto the B851 Fort Augustus road. Follow this for 2.6 miles to Inverarnie (named Tombreck on the OS maps), then turn right onto the B861 signposted to Inverness and the Dunlichity Trout Fishery. Take the first left after 0.5 miles to Dunlichity, passing the fishery and Dunlichity House. Turn right at Dunlichity, signed Bunachton. The crag is visible at this turning. Parking is best at the top of the hill, after 0.5 miles, at a wide track entrance past the crag (NH 6584 3367). If you are approaching from Inverness, there is a more direct route on smaller roads, turning off the southern ring road for Essich, and turning left there for Bunachton.
Access Advice
The Landowner has clearly done a huge amount of tree planting below the crag, Please respect this area.Please park at the top layby on the bunacton-dunlichity lane {It has a big off the road parking area}. Don't park in the passing places or at the Kirk
(The approach is easier from the top and the layby is for the kirk and field entrances)
