This is the closest cragging area to town and the routes described here occupy the sounth facing wall of the Mogote del Valle, the mammoth sierra that dominates the landscape over Vinales. Rather than one continuous cliff, this area is comprised of sections of sections of clean rock separated by vegetated patches. Since the majority of routes in this zone recieve plenty of midday sun, it's better to climb here late in the afternoon or on cloudy days.
Follow one of the two roads that travel north out of Vinales. At first, the roads are paved but makes it way to dirt tracks and narrow footpaths. The red and grey striped walls of Guajiro Ecologico can be seen as you enter the farms and should help serve as a landmark. Please be respectful and minimise your impact when crossing the fields to the crags. The farmers plant crops very close to the cliffs and sometimes use the cavities in the rock to store tools. All these cliffs are about 15 mins walk from Vinales.
