Two seperate buttresses: Upper Buck Crag and the Highball Wall.
Parking in the Birks Bridge car park (54.385339, -3.179405), follow the unmetalled track up until a path on the R (54.381364, -3.188217). Take the R option when this path forks (just after the muddy section), and then (at 54.382112, -3.192062) bushwhack up an old forestry access track (visible on the satellite images) which leads to below the crag.
Really nice crag offering short multi-pitch climbs on good, rough rock. Pro is sparse. Superb outlook across the valley towards the Coniston fells. Approach path is okay initially but final few hundred metres is over very rough, tussocky terrain which needs a dry spell or waders! (this link will take you to 'upper buck crag SLAB'. 'Upper Buck Crag should be located down and to the right of this. But you won't find it on UKC map.)
Hope this saves someone a pointless journey.
Also cooks crag (pinpointed nearby) has been positioned on the wrong location. leighncsontos - 10/Nov/11 |
