Sorrueda crag © trying.soft

Crag features

This crag is in a very pleasant location in a Barranco and the walk in is simple. There are slabby routes in the 4-5s to technical face climbing to hard bouldery routes out of caves. The rock is basalt of good quality. It is an all-year round crag.

Approach notes

Follow the GC-198 towards El Doctoral and turn left into Frenchy Roca street. Keep going towards Santa Lucia on the GC-65/GC-500. 15km later, turn left at the GC-651 towards Sorrueda. Continue through Sorrueda until the road finishes. Keep walking along the road until it meets the river. Cross the river and follow the path going to the right towards the rocks you see at the bottom of the canyon.

Decided to visit after a strong recommendation from a local climber and was not disappointed. It's a crag with a little something for everyone and we spent an excellent day here ticking through the lower grade classics. Like most places on Gran Canaria, the setting is beautiful, but what puts it above other crags on the island are its volume and its variety with everything from feature climbing on big arĂȘtes and laybacks to Margalef-esque pocket-pulling and even a tumble-down section at the end of the crag that wouldn't be out of place in a Peak District quarry. (Truly catering for all tastes). Even if you're just visiting the island for a non-climbing holiday, I'd suggest taking at least one day to pay it a visit.
