Crag features

A fairly pleasant minor crag which can be combined with a visit to the impressive Fort Victor Emmanuel and the Via Ferratas on the fort and in the gorges below.
A pleasant slab with 9 easy routes and a steeper wall to the R with some harder stuff. Five of the routes are bolted, the other four - the easy ones - are top-rope on ly. The R hand sector was banned (2008) and lower-offs removed pending the installation of fencing to stop rockfall from the path above. Current situation unknown.
Pleasant location above a quiet village. Nearby parking and a buvette/bar on hand.
Local guide recommends helmets.

The two easier VFs are on the fort itself.  Diablotins and Angelots traverse the E and W walls of the fort respectively with an entry and exit via gun ports.  Ace for kids!

In the gorge below the various VFs can be linked to create a 7 hour TD route.  Access to the lower VFs is via the Redoubt Marie-Therese or a road from near Avrieux.  Plentiful topos available locally and on noticeboards.

Approach notes

Leave the D1006 (main road through the valley) at either Modane to the W or Sollieres-Sardiere to the NE and follow the minor roads to Aussois. From here the Fort Victor Emmanuel is clearly signposted. Ample parking by the Fort. A path leaves the road on the first hairpin bend from the parking in the Aussois direction. Crag is a couple of hundred meters down the path

Seven Vfs now available at the nearby Fort Victor Emmanuel complex.
