A relatively unexplored area, the Cap has some great potential for deep water soloing. The two main areas at the present are found near the Plage de la Garoupe a very popular tourist spots during the Summer.

All the DWS here is relatively safe and sees few climbers although you are unlikely to be alone in the busy summer months, especially at the Secteur Psycho where thrill-seeking tourists try their luck jumping from the top path.

The Secteur Marine provides a nice warmup with only a few short routes with a comfortable point to start all three, whilst being well protected from the waves. Secteur Psyco is a little further out and you will be starting from the water unless you bring along a paddle board or kayak as boat access isn't really possible, the routes here are slightly longer with a much more thrilling jump from the top!

The Masque is a psychobloc area located at Anse de l'Argent Faux, also known as “Billionaires' Bay,” and it's easy to see why when you see the luxury of the surrounding houses. The area is a cave above the water where you can find all styles of climbing in a very small area. A small beach is located a few minutes' swim from the spot, making it possible to combine a family outing with the children and climbing for enthusiasts. Be careful to avoid days when the sea is rough.

Approach notes

For the Secteur Marine and Psycho take the road which runs along the coastline of the Cap d'Antibes following directions for the Plage de la Garoupe. During the summer, it may be difficult to park in this area as the beach remains very busy until the start of September. From the beach, follow the footpath to the right which leads to a metal gate indicating the start of the equipped part of the trail. Continue for around 300m.

The Secteur Marine is the first sector reached. Access is normally made via a rocky approach preceding the sector, from which you must swim just over 3m before reaching the start of the routes. Alternatively, it is possible to paddle board or kayak from the Plage de la Garoupe, although please be respectful of the other beach goers when setting off.

Secteur Psycho is very close to the sector Marine and is just further along around the corner. There is an obvious downclimb you have to climb over a fence to access, be wary of slipping and don't attempt barefoot as the rock is very sharp. This wall is the most obvious climb at this section and has an almost too perfect area to place your belongings with a view out to sea. Beware of the strong currents, I do not recommend if you aren't a confident swimmer.

For the Secteur Le Masque, the spot is located south of Cap d'Antibes. Park on Avenue Mrs Beaumont. Please note that in high summer it is best to arrive early in the day, as parking spaces are limited. Walk down the avenue towards the sea until you reach the large green gate. To the right of the gate is a path that leads to the beach, which will be your starting point for the climbing area.
There are two ways to get to the area, but in both cases you will have to get into the water:
- Either by sea (allow about 10 minutes swimming),
- Or you can swim to the concrete blocks and then continue on foot along an old, dilapidated path.

Access Advice

The easiest way to access Secteures Marine and Psycho by foot is downclimbing after climbing over a fence, this does make it fairly sketchy. I don't recommend climbing on a windy day as the sea can get pretty agitated and the area can become quite unsafe. Note that there is also no service at these two sectors, so avoid going alone and let someone know where you are.
