Baou des Prannes is a magnificent crag, the most impressive in the area. It has both single and multi-pitch climbs in a fine, exposed and sunny setting. Only a brief guide is included here.
Head out of from Châteaudouble towards Ampus. 3km after leaving Châteaudouble the twisty road becomes dead straight for 1.7km. 260m along here there is extensive parking in the woods on the left at the head of a muddy track that runs into the woods. Follow this for 900m to a sharp left turn then a little further, to a big square cairn just before a clearing. Branch right, downhill and across the head of a small valley to reach the base of the cliff just round the corner.
Update advised Sep 2019 by email from Philippe Bugada (author of local topo): Baou des Prannes is now authorised for climbing only between 02 Aug and 31 Dec each year. Last topo was published in 2004. Next edition is in progress.
