Crag features

Ekne is about a 1h15 drive north of Trondheim. A 30 minute forest walk takes you to a selection of high quality bolted crags. Plenty of routes at all levels in a fabulous setting, overlooking the fjord, particularly in the afternoon as the sun passes. It is quite rare in this part of Norway in that there are plenty of routes at a low grade (Norwegian 4/5).

This area is managed by the Ekne Climbing Club. Contact them at hfsklubb@gmail.com if you want to bolt any new routes.

Approach notes

Drive north along the E6 and look out for the exit to Ekne (exit for Ronglan). When you get to Ekne, turn left (west). Follow this road (which becomes unpaved) for about 9km. The road passes many farms, and generally follows the fjord to the west. Follow this all the way to the barrier. Park near the barrier and leave some change in the toll box (suggested about 20 NOK).

Continue to walk along the track past the barrier for 300-400m past several cabins until you reach a fork. Follow the footpath marked 'Purkvika' until you reach a clearing with two cabins and a boathouse. From this clearing a trail across a wooden slat bridge will take you to the lower and middle crag, and a trail further up the clearing that crosses the creek on a log will take you directly to the upper crag. All crags are marked with a wooden sign. Explore around a bit!
