Elephant Rock is a basalt island with only a relatively small amount of sound rock, although it is probably still the best rock for many hours around. Natural protection should be treated with a great deal of suspicion. The top of the rock can be accessed via an easy ramp on the south side facing the ocean. Tread carefully up there to protect the sensitive soils and plants.
Approach notes
Elephant Rock is clearly seen at the east end of the beach on the approach to Bushranger Bay either from Cape Schanck Lighthouse car park or more pleasantly from the car park on the road to Flinders.
Access is easy at all but high tide. Watch out for rogue waves on the approach. Sea state should be your paramount concern before you worry about the quality of the rock.

Elephant rock is within the Mornington Peninsula National Park and as such has no restrictions on access.
