The crag is split by an obvious crack, visible from the road. The first pitch of the route 'Crack on the Mossy Breast' follows this feature, before breaking out left on to the face and away from the crack, which continues for the height of the crag.
In general, the rock is sound, but as height is gained it should be treated with increasing caution. The aforementioned route is well bolted and has hanging belays (double bolts and chain) at the end of each 30m pitch. 10 quickdraws, minimum trad gear and single 60m rope should see you to the top.
As should be expected from a rarely visited crag in Africa, there is a fair amount of vegetation, but this is avoided on the main route. Holds are small but positive.
The crag at Bigogwe is obvious from the road. It is about 20km drive from Gisenyi, on the main road in the direction of Kigali. Once the crag is visible, look out for a water system sign post on the right-hand side and make a right turn down an unsurfaced track into the village. Park about 300 metres down this track, from where a trail/footpath continues towards the crag on the right. This track will take you, in 15 minutes, through light forestry to the foot of the crag. If unsure, there will be plenty of local children around to show you the way.
From the top of the route, (chain at the end of pitch 5), proceed with care on to a steep dirt track that will take you to the top of the crag proper. At red belay tubes (used by Rwandan troops for abseiling practice) head left (facing in) down a steep track back towards the foot of the crag.
You do not really need permission to climb at this crag, but it is worth seeking out the village chief (called Jacques) just as a courtesy.
