Leicestershire climbs had a prediction:
"There is also an enormous quarry to the west of Mountsorrel (called Mountsorrel Quarry, Castle Hill Quarry or Main Quarry, opened 1852) which is currently being filled in. There appear to be some excellent opportunities in this quarry particularly on the SE face of the little mountain (576150) and just inside the gate on the left (above the skips). The quarry will not be completely in filled because rock exposure has to be left for the geologists. Who knows, it may be the climbable bit."
It is the climable bit, just a few metres, but the pegs are still there, tiny knife blades, I wonder who placed them?
From Mountsorrel village, forget the crags, head for the quarry and the new permissive path around the edge. Its a geological SSSI so try not to damage the granite. Map in photos.
Permissive path runs past crag. Geological SSSI, site still managed by Lafarge
Visited 09/05/2020 whilst on a bike ride. Didn't know it was listed on UKC til I checked the map later... Anyway, this crag isn't worth listing on here. It's an SSSI so don't climb here anyway. Overgrown completely, the trees are brushing the wall of rock all the way up. Shitty loose mud and heather top out NimbleNeil - 11/May/20 |
