Crag features

A rewarding training peak above the Oberaletsch Hut with good variations at easier to moderate grades on the West-Southwest Ridge. As well as providing a good training day out, the views of the Aletschhorn's Southwest Rib and Southwest Flank routes make it a worthwhile reconnaissance option before attempting the Aletschhorn.

The South-southeast Ridge has 13 dramatic towers and a traverse makes a truly epic undertaking. Sampling this ridge is most commonly started from the bivouac hut South-East of the start of the ridge.

Approach notes

The WSW Ridge starts from the Oberaletsch Hut which is a ~ 3 hour walk from Belalp along a clear and well-engineered path above the Oberaltesch Glacier.

The bivouac hut below the SSE Ridge is accessed from the path to the Oberaletsch Hut. It is sign-posted from the main path a short distance after the zig-zags above the bridge crossing the river at the snout of the Oberaletsch Glacier.
