Rocktype Quartzite
Altitude 1m a.s.l
This classically proportioned pinnacle is Islay’s best-known sea-stack and gets its name from the prominent quartz band on its seaward side, reminiscent of a soldier’s shoulder belt.
The stack lies on the coast west of the abandoned settlement of Grasdale, approached from Kintra campsite at the south end of Laggan Bay. It was reached by a 100m swim.
