Crag features

A granite cliff in the BWCAW that due to being remote and hard to get to is usually extremely quite with no one else is sight. There is good TR and trad climing on the left and main section with deep water soloing opportunities on the right section. A lot of the sections are covered in lichen so avoid climbing routs where lots of cleaning is required as the BWCAW has a strict leave no trace ethic. There is also a no chalk ethic in the area so limit your use of the stuff and clean any chalk from holds when you are finished.

Approach notes

From Grand Marais drive to the end of the Gunflint trail and then paddle in canoes or kayaks for about an hour until landing at the base of the crag. There is a trail at the base of the crag that can be used to walk to the top. Motorised water craft are prohibited in this area.

This crag is part of the BWCAW so a permit is required to entre the area during the summer months. Self issue day permits can be found at several entry points to the water nearby or overnight permits can be booked in advance but are limited in number and runout quickley for the peak times in the year.
