Cascade de la Stassaz, Megeve, WI5 © McGus

Crag features

Cascade de la Stassaz is the jewel in the crown of the Evasion Mt Blanc region. A pure cascade ice climb of 50m in height in a beautifull rustic valley. Three bolted dry/mixed climbs exist below the main cascade, and a subsidary ice pitch sometimes forms to the left.

Approach notes

From Megeve centre, follow signs to Mont d'Arbois. and continue through to the small village of Le Planellet. Here take a left and follow signs to the tiny hamlet of Le Planey. There is parkin in laybyes on the left just before reaching the settlement. It is possible to continue right to the end of the road to a small parking area, but this is usually full. 15m drive from Megeve, under an hour from Chamonix.

From Le Planey, follow the stream uphill (good footpaths on the left and right banks) untill it is possible to walk directly up the streambed. the Cascade can be viewed from the parking, and comes into view again as you approach. approximately 20m gentle uphill walk (if traked out), more like 45m if breaking trail. A nice simple approach (if condtions are good, you wont be alone!).
