James Oswald on the technical lower wall of Rakes Progress (7a) at Deep Rake © Alan James

Crag features

Deep Rake comprises two compact walls either side of the old quarry workings at the eastern end of Longstone Edge.

Approach notes

Approach through the quiet hamlet of Roland. Follow the narrow surfaced Lane up onto longstone Edge. Park where the tarmac ends and a wide level track leads off to the right. Walk along the gravel track crossing a cattle grid then take the footpath on the right across the field. The quarry appears on your left in approx 400 yrd’s. 5 minutes. Please don’t be tempted to drive down to the crag and park in one of the adjacent gateways.

Footpegs have been provided on the north east fence post to allow access over the fence without weighting the wire. Avoid damaging the fence or using any other entrance as this would only upset the landowner.

As access is uncertain keep a low profile when entering and leaving the Rake.

Access Advice

Make sure you use the described parking and don't drive down the gravel track. There is no room for cars on the track near the crag.
