Crag features

Five Open Books consists of five large, right-facing corners, or "books," just west of the Lower Falls Amphitheater.  This is a great introduction to multi-pitch climbing, with lower-angled, featured cracks all in the 5.6-5.10 range.  Sunny and with a short approach, this is a popular spot.  Combine one of these routes with Selaginella (5.8) or one of the other routes on the Second Tier for a longer adventure.

Best time to climb:  April - June (sometimes wet) & September - November

Approach notes

10-15 minutes via climber's trails

Use parking lot outside of Yosemite Lodge area and follow the Lower Fall trail until a carabiner post on the left leads up to the crag.

Descent: Walk west on a climber's trail for a few hundred meters until an open slab area.  Continue west and down across the slabs on 3rd/4th class.  Below the slab follow the trail east and down along the base back to the start of the routes.
