Crag features

The Grinah Stones are the great hidden secret of Peak bouldering. It is rare to meet another climber here. These Stones, and their nearby cousin the Barrow Stones, are laid out across the moor in crude circuits, with many standing sentinel in beds of peaty sand. There is around 100 boulder problems across the grades, from lowball to highball, on good rock.

Historically the climbs here are not written up, please respect this tradition and enjoy your own personal discovery and don't add descriptions as they will be deleted.

Approach notes

Park on the Snake Summit and follow the Pennine Way onto Bleaklow for 2 miles, then break off right along the vague trackless ridge for another 2 miles, passing Bleaklow Stones, then the Grinah Stones will be seen off on the right. Be prepared to feel lost.

Alternatively, during midweek, approach from the Derwent Valley by turning north off the A57 by the reservoirs. Park on the second, long, sharp right-hand bend from where the approach path starts. Follow the path up through the trees, past a couple of zigzags, then onto the plateau. The good path continues straight on but break off left and head for the stones (visible from here).
