Fonts d'Algar © Chris Craggs

Crag features

The mountains to the east of Callosa d'en Sarria are riven by a deep gorge where the Algar river flows summer and winter over cascades and through pools. It is a popular tourist trap and gets very busy, especially on hot weekends. There is a huge amount of rock in the gorge and rumours of a lot of climbing, though information is very thin on the ground. The buttress described here is set above the gorge in a remarkably tranquil setting high above the tourist hordes

Approach notes

From the coast, drive to Callosa d'en Sarria and continue through the town on the CV-715 following signs for Fonts d'Algar. A right turn at a split roundabout leads down towards the waterfalls and a variety of parking spots. Turn left into the Restaurante Casa Federico, just beyond this there is parking on the right.

Walk up the main road from the parking - steep! - for 600m to a sharp left-hand bend. Follow the dirt track from the apex of the bend up into the trees, then take an indistinct path the runs more or less horizontally around the hillside to reach the right edge of the cliff, about fifteen minutes from the parking.

No Access Issues

Guidebook says parking issues on road, and not to park in laybys.
