Small zawn with some excellent deep water solos.
Best enjoyed with an evening high tide, when the sun burns the grease off the wall.
CAUTION - the approach scramble is serious and loose.
From Nant Gwrtheyrn, walk down to the beach and along to its north end. A sketchy scramble, following rising diagonal ramps, leads around the headland to the obvious small zawn.
Comment on water depths/landing zone, i have added a couple of photos taken at spring low tide (1.0m at Trefor Gauge) which is the kelp line. Under Scissor, there is about 1.5m water depth here, but it is boulders so it varies. The back wall behind Paper there is a bit of a submerged ledge with is at least 1m higher. Essentailly the zawn gets gradually shallower the further 'inland you go'. off Paper, 7a, best to jump out and slightly climbers right (towards sea exit to zawn) if not high tide. There's a sweet spot between traverse being under water (above 4.0ish m depth at Trefor gauge) and too shallow (from mid tide lower. A neaps high would be ideal i think. George Frisby - 14/Jul/25 |
