Crag features

Sunny mountain crag offering stunning views and single pitch, well-bolted sport routes on compact rhyolite. The walls are for the most part quite steep and holds are generally crimpy and/or well hidden. Grades range from nice beginner routes up to 27 – a daunting but well-protected place to learn to lead climb. The weather can get rough up here and the crags are well-exposed to afternoon sun and winds from the west.

Approach notes

Mount Coree marks a high point (1421 m) on the border between the Australian Capital Territory and New South Wales. To get there, drive to Picadilly Circus, then take Two Sticks Road (graded gravel) to Mount Coree campground (~25 minutes; 1140 m). From here, there is a 2.8 km fire trail up to the summit, which is rougher and can get washed out in places. It takes ~30 minutes to hike up, or you can drive up even in a 2WD vehicle so long as it has decent clearance. Buttresses are listed from northeast to southwest and are accessed by dropping down from the summit ridge at various access gullies.

No Access Issues

The gate to the summit fire trail is sometimes closed after bad weather. Park at the campground and hike up.
