Crag features

El Cap in the middle of the wilderness!! The premier backcountry big wall in the lower 48 states. The northeast through to northwest faces are just under 2000 feet tall and are home to hard aid routes and hard free routes, with more potential for high quality hard free routes that probably any other wall in the lower 48. The rock is generally clean and good quality, despite the fact almost no one climbs here. The entire mountain is like a square protrusion thrusting out of the ground with a 100 acre summit plateau. Luckily there is a single narrow steep ramp leading to a hanging corrie, with more boulder hopping required to reach the trail from Hailey Pass, otherwise getting off this mountain would be a whole lot trickier! The mosquitos can be biblical and it is located smack bang in the middle of bear country, so bring bear gear.

Approach notes

A gruesome approach, 16 miles from Big Sandy trailhead (which is a 40 mile drive down a dirt road) including heading over Hailey Pass, or from Dickinson Pass trailhead which is 17 miles and may or may not be closed (it varies).

No Access Issues

This is pristine wilderness, pack out all rubbish and properly dispose of poo by wag bags (preferable) or by burial, this area feels untouched by humans, leave it that way.
