Los Barruecos were declared a Natural Monument for its spectacular landscape.  Located in the full plain of Cáceres, it is characterised by a flattened relief, with almost no trees, and dominated by the large granite boulders on the shore of the ponds.

It is coarse-grained granite, very aggressive for the skin. Remember that rope climbing is NOT allowed, although there are routes with bolts, if you get caught you risk a fine and bouldering acces may be at removed. So, ONLY BOULDER!!!

The best time to boulder is from October to April. Very cold days will be difficult to come across as the area is often warmed by the sun, even in the middle of January.

Approach notes

Los Barruecos, is located about 15 km from the city of Cáceres, towards Portugal (N-521).  Leave the road when you get to Malpartida de Cáceres and go towards the town. It is better to access from the roundabout before the town (the first one you come across after the long straight), exit to the left and go through the industrial estate (the most common option among local climbers).  Even if you do not want to go through the town, there is a popular shortcut among local climbers: As soon as you pass the industrial park (about 250 meters), two dirt roads emerge on each side of the road.  Take the one on the left, and continuing for about 2.5 km you will reach the road that comes from the town (in front of the hermitage of San Isidro).  Continue to the left, towards the Vostell museum (after about 900 meters you will find the entrance on the left and the car park on the right). Continue without entering and after 600 meters we will see a path on the left that crosses a cattle grid. Pass and 400 meters away is the main car park.

For the rest of the sectors (fronton and barrueco above) see the location map on https://www.enlavertical.com/escuelas/view/72
